A former Inspector General of Nigeria Police, Alhaji (Dr.) Coomassie, GCON, NPM, PSCt, MNI, FCCM is dead. Alhaji Coomassie died in Katsina on Thursday, 19th of July, 2018, at the age of 76, Coomassie, until his death was the Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Sardauna Katsina and Garkuwan Hausa.

Born on March 18th, 1942, the late Coomassie was the Ninth Inspector General of Police. He was educated at the Provincial Secondary School, Zaria, Barewa College, Zaria, Detective Training College, Wakefield, United Kingdom DC in the United States.

The Janazah prayer was performed at Bani Coomassie Central Mosque in G.R.A, Katsina, after the Jumat service. He was finally laid to rest at the public cemetery, Katsina.

President Mohammadu Buhari commiserated with the family members, the government and people of Katsina State over the death of Ibrahim Coomassie who was one of the President’s classmates. In a statement by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Sheu, the President said he received the news with shock and deep sense of loss. “Nigeria will never forget the excellent leadership the late Coomassie gave to the Nigeria Police Force for many years (1993-1999) he served as the Inspector General ” he said.

The death of Alhaji Coomassie has been described as a big blow to the Al-Hikmah University Family. Alhaji Coomassie was the Pioneer Pro-Council of Al-Hikmah University. Al-Hikmah University will never forget him for the solid foundation he laid for the growth and development of the University.

Al-Hikmah University was well represented at the burial. The delegation was led by the Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Alhaji Chief (Dr.) Abduraheem Oladimeji (OFR), the “Jagunmolu of Igbomina land and Arogundade of Lagos”, who was a bosom friend of Alhaji Coomassie for over 50 year. The delegation included the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Taofeek Ibrahim, the Registrar, Alhaja (Dr.) R.M. Oladimeji, Ag. Director of Academic Planning (D.A.P). Dr. L.F Oladimeji, Director of AROIF, Alhaji Abduwasiu Oladimeji and the Chief Imam of Al-Hikmah University, Dr. K. Ali.
