Abstract

Continuous Assessment is an evaluative programme aim at assessing, determining and diagnosing student’s performance or ability in all aspect of domain. This paper discusses the concept of continuous assessment, the nature and relevance in an educational setting. The problems of continuous assessment implementation in Nigerian schools were discussed to include: teachers’ negative attitude, students/learners’ attitude, the education policymaker, facilities and others. The way forward on implementation and uses of continuous assessment in Nigeria school were discussed. Conclusion were drawn and recommendations were made to enhance effective implementation and utilization of continuous assessment in Nigeria school which include proper monitoring and evaluation of report made available by those concerned to relevant groups and individuals, teachers should give honest report to avoid misleading the students, teacher education should be CA inclusive, proper record keeping among others.
