CAUSES AND MANAGEMENT OF STRESS AMONG THE SANDWICH DEGREE STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study investigated the causes and management of stress among the sandwich degree students of University of Ilorin to specifically to identify various cause of stress among sandwich degree students of university of Ilorin and to investigate the extent of stress  on sandwich degree student's performance both socially and academically.. The research is correlation study because the research investigated the causes as well as management of stress which are two variables. A primary factor in the environment, which probably affects health and adjustment today more than anything else is the stress which individual encounter in every life. The instrument used was questionnaire administered to a total of one hundred and twenty (120) respondents (both of students and lecturers) who are randomly selected from all departments of the University of Ilorin. The findings of this study revealed that, inadequate facilities (water, electricity supply, toilet etc) in the campus are major causes of stress among sandwich degree students. And unfavourable school calendar, with poor conduction of learning and unstable university environment "actor leads to stress among sandwich degree students. This study recommended for the provision of adequate facilities of hostels and lecturer halls in the university campus that will help to reduce stress.
