Abstract

The focus of this paper is conflict resolution strategies for achieving the goal of primary
education in Kwara State. Conflict is a natural occurrence in the day-to-day activity of the
school while its impact on the achievement of educational goals cannot be underscored.
Therefore, the school-head is required to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to manage
conflicts and to sustain peace in the school so as to achieve the goals of education. This paper,
therefore, examined the concept of conflict, conflict management skills and peace education. The
effort was made to identify the causes of conflict in schools. Conflict management skill, as
discussed in this paper is seen as the knowledge required of the school-head to handle and
manage the conflict within the school for peaceful co-existence. Poor attendance at conferences
and workshops were identified among other things as challenges of conflict resolution skills and
peace education. It was recommended, among others, that school-head should be attending
seminars and workshops at interval so as to be developed and equipped on the knowledge and
skills required for managing conflict and promoting peace education.
